WESTSHORE HOUSE,
NAPIER

This thoughtfully detailed beachside home won a Housing Award in the 2024 NZIA Hawke’s Bay/Gisborne Architecture Awards — and its spaces have been beautifully showcased through exceptional craftsmanship and carefully layered lighting design.

Moth Light worked closely with the architect and builder to create a lighting solution that complements the architecture while enhancing comfort, flow, and atmosphere. Throughout the home, luminaires are seamlessly integrated into timber ceilings, cabinetry, and walls — delivering light exactly where it’s needed without interrupting the design.

In the kitchen, Downhill Dan 22 profiles are recessed into the cedar ceiling to gently wash light over the dark cabinetry. In the lounge, the 'Flat Freddie 14' and 'Downhill Dan 22' profiles create a look that is striking, clean and modern, while also proving ample light.

Subtle vertical and horizontal lines of light in corridors, softly lit handrails, and low-glare exterior lighting add comfort — without over-lighting or disrupting sightlines to the sea.

This is a home where lighting stays mostly invisible by day, but at night brings warmth, intimacy, and structure to the experience of the space.

Moth Light was recognised at the 2025 IES ANZ NZ Chapter Awards, receiving an Award of Commendation for the lighting design.
