Designed by Warren and Mahoney and engineered to meet stringent international standards, Te Rua Archives New Zealand is Aotearoa’s new purpose-built national archives facility, created to protect and preserve some of the country’s most significant documentary heritage. The building brings together long-term resilience, highly controlled environmental conditions, and public access spaces in one consolidated site.
Moth Light worked with the project team to illuminate key areas of the exterior landscaping, providing clear visual guidance for visitors. Offspring Profiles’ Flat Freddie 30 was integrated beneath the timber bench seating, within landscape elements, and into the external stair balustrade, where the profile is tucked discreetly under the capping. This concealed detail delivers a consistent, even line of light along the stair and thoroughfare without introducing glare or visual clutter—supporting both safety and architectural intent.
Inside the building, Sideways Sally 20R provides general lighting to lift lobbies and circulation points, while Downhill Dan 10 illuminates the many lightboxes throughout the interior.
Te Rua Archives New Zealand was delivered by Dexus in partnership with the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).
